Feng Shui and the use of the Bagua

Compass Bagua or Three-Doors Bagua: Which Method Suits Your Home?

The Bagua analysis is the heart of every Feng Shui consultation. It acts like a map that we overlay onto a floor plan to activate the various areas of life—from relationships and health to career or wealth.

Das Kompass Bagua

Yet this is precisely where uncertainty begins for many: Which method is the right one for my home? In the practice of Feng Shui, two approaches stand in contrast to one another: the classical Compass Bagua and the Three-Doors Bagua.

Both methods have their merits, yet when applied to the very same apartment, they often lead to completely different results. Those who make the wrong choice here apply their leverage in the wrong places—and then wonder why the desired change in their lives fails to materialize.

The Compass Bagua: The Connection to the Cosmos

The Compass Bagua is the traditional—and most original—form of analysis. It aligns strictly with the cardinal directions, connecting your home to external, cosmic energies.

Fundamentally, the Compass Bagua is the first choice for detached houses, as they are directly exposed to the forces of nature. However, this method is also the preferred choice for most apartments. The decisive factor is always the "connection" to the outdoors—specifically, the extent of the exterior walls and windows.

The Three-Doors Bagua: When the Inner Energy Field Takes the Lead

The Three-Doors Bagua was developed to accommodate the specific characteristics of modern living environments. In this approach, the analysis is not based on compass directions, but rather on the location of the entrance door.

This method is particularly effective when a dwelling is heavily shielded from the outside world—for instance, due to highly complex or irregular floor plans, or when it features more interior walls than exterior ones.

The decisive question is: How strongly does the "Outside" energize your home?

The big question is not which method is "better," but rather: How intense is the connection between your living spaces and their surroundings? Do you live on the third floor of a loft building with massive windows overlooking a park? If so, the Compass Bagua will likely set the tone. Does your apartment have few exterior walls, or is it awkwardly laid out? In that case, the Three-Doors Principle is a more fitting approach.

Anyone who makes the wrong decision here risks—in the worst-case scenario—adjusting the wrong levers. A "wealth corner" activated using the wrong method remains energetically inert—and the desired change in your life simply will not materialize.

Put an End to Uncertainty: Gain Clarity for Your Project

It is completely normal to feel unsure when deciding between compass direction and door placement. Every property is energetically unique. An incorrect analysis often means investing valuable time and energy into measures that do not align with your personal living situation.
